Ski Tuning FAQs

When would I need just a wax?

A wax only tune is perfect for when your edges seem clean and your base is not too worn or scratched but you just want your skis or board to glide as best as possible on the slopes.

Our hot wax service will typically keep wax on your base for 4-7 ski days depending on how hard you ride, weather conditions, and the condition of your base.

What type of wax is best?

Typically, we use an all temp wax that works on almost all conditions. But if you want the best out of your gear, upgrade to our temperature specific wax, or graphite wax!

What is graphite wax?

You may have noticed we also advertise graphite based all temperature wax. Graphite wax helps reduce static friction typically in colder temperatures to help your base glide much better. This is our “premium” all temp wax.

When do I upgrade to a Black Diamond or Double Black Diamond tune?

The Black Diamond Tune is an advanced level stone grind tune. It includes minor P-tex work, bases belted flat to restore excess wear. Then they are stone ground, sharpened, and waxed. Great tune for skis needing some extra care.

If your skis are in very rough shape, or you just want an excellent tune, we recommend our Double Black Diamond Tune. This is our top-level package, which includes minor p-tex work, as well as an Iron on wax service.

When do i need a stone grind tune?

We typically recommend getting a stone grind once a season, two or three times if you ski very regularly.

Stone grinding a base puts structure back into the base. This allows the textured ridges to “slice” through the snows surface tension and allow for superior speed and control. Another huge perk of a stone grind is that it allows wax to adhere to the base structure and last much longer.

When is P-Tex work needed?

If you have deep scratches or gouges in your base, our simple tune packages may not be enough. We can repair almost any base damage with our state of the art P-Tex gun and extensive repair knowledge.
